EQ1500: Equine First Aid

Accidents and injuries can happen at any time anywhere, for any number of reasons. This makes it essential that everyone involved with horses – grooms, trainers, riders, drivers, coaches – learn how to administer first aid and how to do so safely. When minutes count, we need to know how to make the most of every second.

This online course from the University of Guelph covers an overview of first aid procedures and includes a focus on many common health conditions horse caregivers may encounter on a day-to-day basis. A goal of this course is to give caregivers the peace of mind knowing how to step in and help the horse when needed until a professional arrives.

This course runs for a one-week period, with an additional three weeks of extended course access to allow extra time to complete learning activities.  Once the course is completed through the University of Guelph, the student is able to receive Equinology/EquiLearn Institute credit by requesting the at-home externship.

You must be at least 16-years-old to take this course.

Externship:
Once you have successfully completed the course through the University of Guelph, you must register for the externship to receive Equinology/EquiLearn Institute credit. The cost for externship grading is $100.  Please contact office@eli-us.com to request the externship once you have finished the course.

Registration for this course is done through the University of Guelph and may be accessed here.

Once you have successfully completed the course, you must register for the externship to receive Equinology/EquiLearn Institute credit. For the purpose of demonstrating your knowledge and skills, you will video tape yourself performing specific first aid skills and write a one-page essay. You have one month from the course end date to request the at-home externship and four months to complete the externship once requested.
